Sam Sewall has at last returned home after spending three months in Missouri with daughter Cheryl, and the past month in Scarborough with daughter Gail. They arrived from Scarborough on April 30th and this time the weather has greeted them with lots of sunshine and warmth.
Clayton and Priscilla Varney, who have been in Winterport this past month, have decided to make Winterport their permanent home with their son and wife, Nick and Carol Varney. They plan to come up often this summer, tho, to stay at their cottage on Mattawamkeag Lake and visit with friends and relatives. Am still seeing the stray cat and feeding him, too. Sometimes he is at the door in the morning and greets me with very loud yowls letting me know he wants his breakfast. He still has the collar on and isn’t afraid of coming up to me so he must belong to someone nearby.
I think he keeps an eye on the bird feeders, too and so far have found no evidence that he has gotten a bird.Lots of gold finch and nuthatchers are busy in the feeders, and now the grosbeeks have assembled too. Have one lone deer that arrives in late afternoon and grazes away quietly. Have been putting out old bread for her and she comes trotting up quickly to get it when she sees me leave. She has to be on the ball as the big black crows like that bread too, and can do away with it quite quickly. So far, she has been doing o.k. and get’s it all.
