Harrison celebrates her 85th birthday
WASHBURN NEWS
Lorraine Harrison recently enjoyed celebrating her 85th birthday with lots of friends and family members. Her first party was held at the Lidstone Memorial Methodist Church in Washburn on Sunday, April 25. Both her sons, John and Larry Harrison, pinned a pink carnation with baby’s breath corsage on her, and they, along with family members Laura and Rinette, attended the morning service. Afterwards, they went downstairs to enjoy a special birthday brunch which included buffet-style tables full of wonderful treats including a special birthday cake made by Ce Ce Rossignol. There was quite a crowd of church family, friends and family members present.
During her birthday week, Lorraine and her family attended a second special birthday party in her honor, hosted by her sister, Linda Callison, at her home in Stockholm. The guests enjoyed the get-together with family and friends and especially the delicious birthday cake.
Lorraine enjoyed a week’s visit with her son John and his wife Laura from Plainville, Conn., and received many cards and gifts from friends near and far, including one from her grandson Brian, of Connecticut.
Even though the celebrations are over and family members have all returned home, Lorraine is keeping active with her involvement in the Washburn Rec Center Seniors program and UMPI’s SAGE program.

The second annual Spring Fling Dance put on by TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) was held on Saturday, April 17, at the Trailrunners snowmobile clubhouse. It was a huge success with approximately 75 guests coming from the local area as well as surrounding towns, with some even arriving in period costumes. There were great snacks along with coffee and punch available and the music was from the 1950s’ to 1960s’ era, with Kathy Plante serving as D.J. for the evening.
There was even a guest whose arrival noted “Elvis has entered the building”! The “King,” aka Quinten Warren, took time to dance with a few of the guests and was attired in his gold star-decorated white cape and bell bottom pants. He also provided the audience with his karaoke-singing renditions of his favorite Elvis songs.
There were door prizes drawn every half hour and consisted of gift cards, homemade pot holders, hand towels and several decorative garden items. There was also a 50/50 drawing, won by Carol Hodde, and the large door prize drawn at the end of the evening was won by Patsy Delong of Presque Isle. It consisted of a garden tub full of gardening and seasonal items including seed, soil, a water can and plant dish, mini garden tools including a hose and spade, garden gloves and a shepherd’s crook for plant display.
