PIACC to host annual sale

PRESQUE ISLE — It’s spring cleaning season — time to clean out the closets, clear out the garage and discard unwanted items or sell what still is usable.

What better way to make a little extra cash than by participating in the annual City Wide Yard Sale, hosted each year by the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, June 5, beginning  8 a.m.
“A rain date has been set for June 12, same time,” said Theresa Fowler, executive director of the PIACC.
To ensure shoppers can find your sale, the PIACC is once again printing a map of all sale locations.
“The cost to participate in the event and be included on the map is $5 per residence or $10 for businesses. Registration forms can be picked up at the PIACC office, located on the Houlton Road, at area businesses or City Hall,” said Fowler.
Registration forms need to be turned in at the PIACC by May 21 in order to have your name on the map. The maps will be ready for distribution on June 1.
Individuals planning yard sales are reminded that the city has a new ordinance pertaining to advertising such sales. Under the new ordinance, two signs are permitted of not more than four square feet on the property of the resident having the sale. The ordinance also allows two directional signs of no more than two square feet to be posted elsewhere, provided the property owner grants permission for such placement. Signs can be put up no more than two days prior to a sale and must be removed no later than 48 hours after the sale ends. Violators can be prosecuted. For information on the ordinance, contact the city’s Code Enforcement Office at 764-2506.
