The Mountain Bike Wildlife Bike Run is for all levels of bike rider skills and included in the route there will be riding on the ATV trail. This is a family-oriented day, and at the end of the race and bike run, there will be food and prizes at the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club, located off the Parsons Road in Presque Isle. All proceeds from the Fun Run go towards local activities and projects provided by the Presque Isle and Washburn Rotary clubs.
Crouseville annual supper
The Crouseville Advent Christian Church will be holding their 11th annual Lobster Dinner on Saturday, May 22. There are two seatings, first at 5 p.m. and then another at 6:30 p.m., at the Crouseville Mission building. Takeout plates are also available. The menu is lobster, salad, baked potatoes, rolls, pies and drinks. The cost is $25 per person and proceeds will go to benefit the youth programs.

American Legion Oscar Dow Post 48 of Washburn will be putting the flags on the cemeteries in the Washburn, Perham, Wade and Crouseville areas on Tuesday, May 18. Anyone wishing to purchase the special military flag holders is asked to contact Kermit Fuller 455-0962 or Larry Harrison 455-4074.
Baccalaureate Service is at the WDHS gym on Sunday, June 6, starting at 7 p.m. Last Chapel is on Friday, June 11, at 1 p.m., with graduation to be held starting at 7 p.m. Both June 11 events will be at the high school gym.
The seniors will be leaving on their annual Project Graduation excursion right after graduation exercises on June 11. They will be going to Portland on Friday, June 11, spending the night there. On Saturday, June 12, the group will be heading to Old Orchard Beach for some sun and surf before traveling on to Boston for a visit to Six Flags amusement park, then returning home to Washburn on Sunday, June 13.
There are only five days remaining before the departure date of Monday, May 24, when the Destination Imagination teams begin their trip to the global competition held in Knoxville, Tenn. They will be spending a week on the road and at the competitions, returning to Washburn on Monday, May 31.
The teams are sponsoring a special Zumba-thon at the high school gym from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 22. Instructor Paige Huston is volunteering her time to put on this event, and there will be a minimum donation of $10 for two 50-minute sessions, with a short intermission in between, with proceeds going towards the “travel fund.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the fund may drop their cans and bottles off at the Washburn Redemption Center and they will receive six or 16 cents per item.
Wednesday, May 19, will be the final day for gymnastics in Mars Hill. The bus will leave the elementary school at 2:45 p.m. and return to the Rec Center at 5:15 p.m.
On Friday, May 21, the awards ceremony for the grades 5 and 6 boys’ basketball team will be held Rosella’s Restaurant on North Street in Presque Isle starting at 5:30 p.m. The van will be leaving the Rec Center at 5 p.m.
On Monday, May 24, there will be men’s basketball from 6 to 9 p.m.
Registration for the summer programs through the Washburn Rec Center will be held on Monday and Tuesday, May 24-25, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Rec Center; Wednesday, May 26, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, May 27, from 6 to 7 p.m.; and on Friday, May 28, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Anyone not able to make any of these dates and times, please contact Marcie at the Rec Center at 455-4959 to arrange for an available time.
The senior exercise program for Washburn senior citizens will be held at the Caribou Wellness Center on Wednesday, May 19 and Wednesday, May 26. The van will leave the Rec Center at 9 a.m. and return at 11 a.m.
Washburn Town Council held their regular meeting on Tuesday, May 11, at the Washburn Civic Center with 39 people attending. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.
During public participation, a resident had questions on audit report items, and these were explained and it was noted that they had been resolved.
The Council and town manager signed off on the Trailrunners Snowmobile Club’s grant approval. The Council voted to accept the minutes from the April 13 Council meeting, and they reviewed the financial figures through April 30, 2010, and also reviewed and signed off on the county tax bill.
A request was made by the Washburn Fire Department for authorization to fill local pools with water from the hydrants. The Council voted to allow this procedure with the stipulation that the pool owners provide the department with a signed waiver and also pay the Washburn Water and Sewer Department for the water provided.
The Council also voted to authorize repairs of the leaking roof, seams and flashing at the Washburn Rec Center.
Council held a lengthy discussion with town librarian Kathy Corey regarding the recent closing of the library.
The Council went into executive session to discuss economic development, along with personnel and legal matters.
The next meeting of the Washburn Town Council will be held on Monday, June 14, at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center, and all interested residents are urged to attend.

Those eligible include homeowners or renters of any age who meet all of the following requirements. They must be Maine residents for all 12 months of 2008, owned or rented a home in Maine for all 12 months of 2008 and occupied that home for at least six months of 2008, lived alone and total household income in 2008 was $61,400 or less or lived with a spouse or dependents and total household income in 2008 was $81, 850 or less. They have to have had a 2008 property tax bill that was more than 4 percent of total household income or paid rent in 2008 that was more than 20 percent of total household income. Exception: Seniors do not need to meet this requirement when their income is not more than $13,900 for those living alone or not more than $17,000 when living with a spouse or dependent.
Jenica Ray Harris celebrated her 12th birthday on Saturday, April 3, at home with family and friends. After cards and gifts were opened, a lunch was served including a cake, featuring a basketball scene, made by her grandmother Ardis Humphrey. Attending the party were: her parents Barry and Jana Ingraham, sisters Jayden and Jenesa, grandparents Raymond and Ardis Humphrey, Aunt Jody Morin, Uncles Joel Humphrey and friend Rhonda Chamberlain, and Jere Humphrey. Also attending were Edna Sherburne, Ward and Christine Turner and their children Brianna and Mitchell and classmates and friends Emmy Churchill and Jessica Aube. The group also went swimming at the Presque Isle Indoor Pool where Rylie Turner joined them. Unable to attend but sending cards and gifts were grandparents Charles and Linda Ingraham and Bryan and Stacey Bubar and family Taylor, Gage and Delaney.
Jayden Grace Harris turned 9 years old on Wednesday, April 21, and celebrated her birthday with a party at her home on Friday, April 23. The guests enjoyed a special lunch and then some play time along with lots of photos taken. Grandmother Ardis Humphrey made her a Hannah Montana birthday cake which was the theme of her party.
Those sharing in her special day were: her parents Barry and Jana Ingraham and sisters Jenica and Jenesa, her grandparents Raymond and Ardis Humphrey, Uncle Joel Humphrey and friend Rhonda Chamberlain, Uncle Jere Humphrey, Christine Turner, Brianna and Mitchell Turner, Samantha Church, Sarah Maynard, Sydney Chavez, Kassie Farley and Samantha White. Brianna and Kassie had a sleepover with Jayden for the night.

The Salmon Brook Historical Society will be holding their quarterly meeting on Thursday, June 24, at the Washburn Civic Center at 5:30 p.m. There will be a potluck supper followed by a business meeting. Entertainment after the business meeting will be provided by “The King” — an Elvis impersonator. Please bring a main dish or dessert and a place setting. Bring your friends and neighbors. All are welcome.
