Town clerk makes restitution

WESTFIELD — The case of a town clerk who was charged with theft and tampering with public records came to a conclusion this spring, with Lisa Lovely meeting Superior Court requirements that she makes full restitution and serves a minimal period in jail.

According to the D.A.’s Office, Lovely pled guilty on March 16, 2009, on the two counts, agreeing to a deferred disposition, promising she would not commit more criminal offenses over the next year and would make full restitution. She abided by the agreement and, at the end of the year, the court amended her charges, dropping the Class B charge to a Class D. Had she not met her obligations, Lovely could have faced up to five years in prison, with probation.
Since March of 2009, Lovely made restitution for just over $19,748 and served 30 days in jail. The majority of restitution was paid to the Maine Municipal Association’s attorney, with $1,000 being paid to the town of Westfield.
Lovely appeared in Superior Court in Caribou on April 22 for the disposition, withdrawing her guilty plea to the felony charge, which was amended to a Class D offense, once restitution was made and 30 days were served. She received 30 days on the second count, tampering, with the time served concurrently.
