Joan Marie Higgins

    PATTEN – Joan Marie (Shorette) Higgins, 75, died unexpectedly Friday, June 25, 2010. She was born March 27, 1935, in Island Falls, daughter of the late Lawrence and Winnifred (Leavitt) Shorette.
    She was valedictorian of Island Falls High School, class of 1952. She lived her life by Bible principles as a faithful member of Jehovah's Witnesses. She was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother, who will be missed by all who knew her kind and gentle spirit. She dearly loved all of her grandchildren and had the unique gift of making each one feel special. She loved playing cards, going out to eat and spending time with family and friends.
    She is survived by five children, Karla and Barry Tower and children, Heidi and Randy, Kathy and Harold Wood and children, Lori, Nicole, Alisha and Lyndsay, Kevin and Nancy Higgins and children, Kami, Neal and Adria, Kristie Higgins, and Kirk Higgins and son, Kadin; three great-grandchildren, Corbin, Willow and Karli; two sisters, Annette Rogers and Shirley Seymour; and a very dear friend, Faye Brown.
    She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Delbert Guy Higgins; two sisters; two brothers; and a beloved grandson, Kaleb Higgins. Graveside services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 29, at Patten Cemetery. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Island Falls.
