Probus Club of Central Aroostook news

The Probus Club of Central Aroostook met June 17 at Northern Maine Community College for their monthly meeting. There were 23 members and four guests present.
Guests included Dave Maxey, Barbara Bishop, Ann Scribner and Mr. Welch. President, Peggy Woodman, turned the meeting over to Program Director, Mel Fitzherbert.
Mel entertained us with stories from his own life and his career of 46 years in the insurance business. He told us of the many twists and turns of growing up on a farm, suffering a major industrial accident as a teenager, his years at UMO and the places and people he met in his business career,” said secretary, Meta Giggey.
Fitzherbert announced that the guest speaker for the July meeting will be Nancy Chandler, who will talk about the Children’s Museum Project in Caribou.
President Woodman called the business meeting to order. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and approved. Gerry Gallagher announced that the Club’s scholarship award will go to Ashley Wood of Westfield, who will be attending NMCC in the fall.
The Club had received correspondence from Probus of Canada that contained the minutes of their annual meeting and audit report. Mary McBride explained that the Probus Club of Central Arroostook is linked with the Probus Club of Canada.
Pearl Carmichael read a lovely story entitled “On the Light Side … From One Friend to Another.”
The next meeting of the Probus Club of Central Aroostook will be Thursday, July 21, in the cafeteria at NMCC.

Retired teachers set summer meetings

The first meeting of the year was held June 29 at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton. Chloe Wheeler presented a musical program and a Remembrance Program was also presented.
The July 27  program will feature yoga therapy by Sylvia Martin following the meal at UM-Fort Kent’s Nowland Hall. The Aug. 31 meeting will be at the Limestone Job Corps Center with a program presenting state office political candidates. The final session, Sept. 27, will be at the PI Inn and Convention Center where Dan Ladner and Janice LaPointe will offer a program of musical entertainment.  All meetings have registration and a social hour at 11 a.m. followed by the meal at noon.
