Houlton Rotary Club seeks groups for donations

HOULTON, Maine — If your non-profit group or organization in need of funds, then the Houlton Rotary Club wants to hear from you.
“We’re looking for groups who are seeking monetary donations for service projects,” said Scott White, president-elect for the Houlton Rotary. “We do one large donation each year; depending on the amount, sometimes we do two or three. We typically do a few $1,000 requests and one larger one, which could be anywhere from $10,000-$15,000.”
All funding requests must be submitted on a Request for Funds application, which may be obtained at HoultonRotary.org or by contacting Scott White at 538-7391. All funding applications should be submitted prior to Friday, July 2, to the Houlton Rotary Club, PO Box 425, Houlton, ME 04730 or e-mailed to aag@gwi.net.
“Sometimes we have to remind people that this is what we do,” White said. “There have been times when I have spoken to people who are trying to raise money, but they have never applied to Rotary for assistance.”
Interested groups should be from Houlton, Hodgdon, Littleton or Monticello, White said.
Some of the prior projects funded by the Houlton Rotary Club include: The Field of Dreams, Houlton Area Playgrounds, Houlton Performing Arts Center, Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum, Houlton Amphitheater, Soap Box Derby, Dollars for Scholars, Cary Library, Salvation Army, River Front Project, Houlton Humane Society, Aroostook County Historical & Art Museum, and several international projects.
The Houlton Rotary Club was established on February 20, 1920 as the first Rotary Club north of Bangor. Frank A. Peabody, founder of the FA Peabody Insurance Company and Charles H. Fogg, editor of the Houlton Times were the prime leaders in getting the Rotary Club in operation.
