TAMC receives Well Workplace designation
The Wellness Council of Maine (WLCME), a subsidiary of the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA), announced that seven EMHS member organizations have received WELCOA Well Workplace Designations: The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, AHS and Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Charles A Dean Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home in Greenville, The EMHS Home Office in Brewer, Inland Hospital in Waterville and Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield. By becoming Well Workplaces, winners demonstrate that their worksite health strategy is not only comprehensive but effective and has produced measurable results.
In receiving this news, Michelle Hood, FACHE, president and CEO of EMHS commented, “It’s wonderful that Maine is ahead of the curve in workplace wellness and I am thrilled that EMHS is on the leading edge in Maine. The recognition that seven EMHS members received a designation as a WELCOA Well Workplace further demonstrates our system’s commitment to model the important role that employees can and should play in helping individuals improve their health status. We are strategically approaching the total health of our employees and community in order to nurture and protect our human assets. This is one of the many reasons why at EMHS we say, ‘Together we’re stronger!’”
The WLCME said that having seven EMHS member organizations designated as Well Workplaces is a unique honor.
“The planning, dedication and strategy it took to achieve this level of health promotion programming across the many locations, wide geography and individual cultures of seven EMHS members was substantial. The system approach is rare and intricate. This accomplishment in a two-year time period is extraordinary and really speaks to the power of collaboration and commitment. EMHS is setting the bar high for healthcare systems not only in Maine, but in the nation,” commented Jaime Laliberte, director of WLCME.
In 2008, EMHS embarked on a system-wide integrated health management strategy called Total Health. Total Health is a data-driven approach which combines a healthy business, healthy work environment and personal responsibility to encourage prevention, individual accountability and behavior change.
“EMHS is dedicated to providing our employees and their families with the tools to improve and maintain their health. Our goal is to help EMHS employees make educated choices about healthcare coverage, healthcare utilization and healthy everyday living so that we may better fulfill our commitment to our communities,” said Hood.
EMHS has 12 member organizations across central, eastern and northern Maine. Together, EMHS members share best practices and ongoing quality initiatives to improve access to quality care at the local level.
