Fireworks on, off track at Caribou’s Spud Speedway

CARIBOU — Spud Speedway was bustling with activity over the holiday weekend with a full night of racing and fireworks Saturday.
“I just want to take a minute and say thanks to all the fans who made it out to the races this past Saturday night for the races and fireworks,” said Glen King. “The show had way too many fireworks on the track and it caused our show to be much longer than usual. Strange wrecks and large clean-ups made for a lot of work for the safety crews to keep up on such an important night of racing.”

The night ended with a spectacular fireworks show put on by Central Maine Pyrotechnics.
Monster trucks, tough trucks and stunt man Crash Moreau will be featured at the track this Friday and Saturday for the summer national monster truck competition. Six monster trucks will compete both nights in a wheelie contest, side by side racing, freestyle, and more.
“Tuff truck teams from around the state are headed up for a two nights of racing, and if all that was not enough, Crash Moreau will be on hand to perform some death defying stunts,” King said. “There will be a pit party on the front stretch of the race track from 5-6:30 p.m. both nights. For just $5 kids can go down on the track get up close and personal with the trucks, the drivers, take pictures, and get autographs. There will also be a monster truck offering rides around the track.”
All the action starts at 7 p.m. both nights and seating is very limited. There are only about 2,000 seats at Spuds and they will be offering no more than 2,500 tickets per show, so make sure to buy your tickets in advance to get a 4 p.m. entrance time for choice of the best seats in the house. Tickets bought at the track on the day of the show will be allowed in at 5 p.m.
Tickets are available online (www.spud-speedway.com) or at Haney’s Building Specialties. For more information, e-mail gtking03@maine.rr.com.
