Minor League baseball

     Katahdin Trust cruised to the 10-0 victory over K of C behind strong pitching from Kyler Caron. Storm Bonato paced Katahdin Trust offensively with two hits. Mason Young and Torey Levesque knocked out hits for K of C, who also got strong defensive play from Josh Baldwin, Chase Quirion, Will Bridges, and Karsten Bourgoine. Jacob Sjoberg, Keegan Cogswell, and Jared Kilcollins made some fantastic plays in the field for Katahdin Trust. 

    Key Bank narrowly escaped with a 3-1 decision over Savings Bank. Griffin Guerrette picked up the win on the mound, striking out a season high 11 batters. Jaren Winger and Drew Cameron both had hits for Key Bank. Savings Bank was led by a thunderous double off the bat of Jake Stevens, while Bailey York and Max Bartley also chipped in with hits. Jack Beaulieu, Alex Churchill, Isaac Madore, Trevor Miranda, and Ifeanyi Sargent all made key plays in the field for Key Bank. Not to be outdone in the field for Savings Bank were Erick Tompkins, Brandon McKnight, and Jack Bonville, who kept the game close with a plethora of highlight reel plays on their end.
    Wednesday brought on a showdown with Key Bank and K of C. Key Bank’s bats were firing early and often as they prevailed, 8-1. Griffin Guerrette and Jaren Winger each singled twice for Key Bank, and Jack Beaulieu, Trevor Miranda, Alex Churchill, Isaac Madore, and Keagan Kinney all singled once. Jonah Hudson smacked a double for K of C, who also got hits from Josh Baldwin, Gage Young, Andrew Hewitt, Carter Trombley, and Karsten Bourgoine.
    Savings Bank picked up the 8-3 win over Katahdin Trust behind a three hit day from Jake Stevens. Max Bartley, Brandon McKnight, and Bailey York rapped two hits apiece, while the duo of Erick Tompkins and Jack Bonville finished with one hit each. Kyler Caron paced Katahdin Trust with five hits. Jacob Sjoberg, RJ Gross, and Storm Bonato smashed three hits each, while Jared Kilcollins and Elijah Ruiz also picked up hits.
    Key Bank closed out a perfect week as Jaren Winger outdueled Jonah Hudson of K of C. Winger helped himself out at the plate with four hits, while teammate Griffin Guerrette added three hits. Jack Beaulieu, Iffy Sargent, and Isaac Madore also added hits. Gage Young and Hudson managed the only hits for K of C.
    Savings Bank picked up the 10-3 win over Katahdin Trust as Jake Stevens, Jack Bonville, and Erick Tompkins each singled twice. Bailey York and Cole Paterson also had hits for Savings Bank. Pony League

    The third week of summer brought a wet, rainy start that led to a few postponed games on Monday and a drizzly rest of the week.  Wednesday the Wildcats took the field for a doubleheader.  First game of the two, the Cats hosted F.F. the only hit that F.F. gave up was to Karson Wilcox in the first inning on the defensive side of the field Josh Gordon, Andrew Patterson, Tyler Proulx, Karson Wilcox, Tyler Seeley and Keegan Ennis all made nice defensive plays, unfortunately the Cats came up short with a score of 15-0 with F.F.’s favor. 
    In the second game of the double header the outcome was very similar as the two P.I. teams clashed.  In this game Wildcats scored 3 runs on 5 hits.  The hits were produced from Tyler Seeley who claimed a triple, David Cyr ripped a double and Josh Gordon, Andrew Patterson both added hits while Scott Raynold chipped in 2 hits.  Defensively David Cyr made a rally killing catch in center field. Also making key plays for the Cats were Josh Gordon, Tyler Seeley, Andrew Patterson, Scott Raynold, Michael Donovan and Tyler Proulx.  For the boys in the other dugout; RBD; Corey Belanger earned the win on the hill and added 13K’s to the box score.  Helping his cause at the plate was the offensive machine Isaac Lajoie going 5 for 5 with 2 singles, 2 triples, and an inside the park HR, Lajoie also had 7 RBI’s. With additional help offensively RBD pitcher, Belanger added 4 hits, Ben Buckley added 3 hits, Matthew Tilley, Ryder Soucy, and Evan Waddell all added 2 Hits and chipping in with 1 hit each- Kyle Goupile, Cody Flannery and Chase Norton helped the offensive attack.  RBD won with ease with a 15-3 win.
    On Wednesday, the hottest day of the year! RBD hosted Ashland with Chase Norton on the hill having 5K’s and threw a 4 hitter.  Helping Norton defensively was Ryder Soucy, Quinn Graves, Ben Buckley, Evan Waddell, and Kyle Goupile.  Leading the offensive battle for RBD were Corey Belanger, Cody Flannery, Chase Norton, and Matthew Tilley. RBD took the win with a score of 10-1.

 
Major League

    Wednesday held the 1st under the light game of the week with Elks hosting the Kiwanis. Offensively for the Kiwanis was Pat Cash slamming a 3RBI double and Nick Bartlett added a double with and a single chipped in by Michael Mahon. Defensively for Kiwanis Isaac Devein, Marcus Ouellette and Caleb Cyr all made key plays.  In the other dugout Denny Young and Jake Kinney who both had two hits and 3 RBIs led the Elks offensive  also adding hits for Elks were Khasen Lowe, Kyle Ryder, Grant Stewart, and William Knowles. Defensively David Kofstad and Devin Grant both made nice plays.  The Elks won 14-4.
    Game two of the week featured Rotary and Kiwanis, which turned into a seesaw battle.  Rotary hopped out to an early lead, but Kiwanis battled back with Ryan Player hitting a two run triple and Michael Mahon driving him in for the game-winning hit.  Other hits for the Kiwanis were Nick Bartlett, Pat Cash, and Marcus Ouellette.  For Rotary Jason Bartley, Brycen Libby, Same Gray, Gavin Kelley and Logan Michaud led the offensive attack.  Defensively Connor Murchison, Alex Brewer and Kyle Kilcollins made outstanding plays.  Kiwanis won 11-10. 

 
Girls softball

    Junior softball got underway with the Thunder defeating the Rockhounds, 16-5, in the season opener for both teams.
     The weather broke long enough for the two teams to meet up. Kali Ward led the Thunder defensively and offensively. She pitched five innings of six-hit ball to earn the victory. Offensively, Ward led the Thunder with three hits and three runs.
    Rayne Helman, Brittany Wilson, and Jessica Cameron contributed to the Thunder offense with two hits apiece. Wilson and Cameron also accounted for four runs each. Tori Harvath  and Cameo Madore led the Rockhounds offensively with two hits each. Bailee Robichaud and Olivia Hudson rounded out the offense with a hit each for the Rockhounds.
     The Thunder squeaked by the Rockhounds, 18-16. Darrian Corey paced the Thunder with two hits and a run batted in. Rayne Helman added two hits while Lee Ireland and Jessica Cameron each contributed a hit. Ward crossed the plate five times to help the Thunder offense. Lee Ireland pitched three solid innings to get the win.
    Megan Seward, who hit a home run and a double, led the Rockhounds offensively. Robichaud and Kelsey Gilson also swung hot bats and provided two hits each. Hudson, Harvath and Natanya Pictou added a hit each to help the offense.
     The Rockhounds came back in the nightcap to defeat the Mudcats by a score of 14-7. Gilson pitched four innings of one-hit ball to earn the victory. She also provided her share of offense by getting three hits, including a triple. Madore excelled on the bases and scored four times. Amy Seeley and Robichaud also accounted for two runs apiece. Hudson, Madore and Grace Braley anchored the defense. Emily Colligan had two hits to lead the Mudcats. Jordi Legassie and Taylor Williams contributed a hit each.

 
Swim Team

    Presque Isle swim team sponsored by Ace Rental Car captured first at the Fort Kent swim meet on July 7. Fort Kent placed second, Fort Fairfield third and Caribou was fourth.
    Individual high point winner from Presque Isle were: Belle Thibault, Ryllan Thibault, Tyler Turner, Abbie Estey, Alex Hemphill, Kyle Gilson and Parker Lambert.

    Alecia Palmer finished first in breaststroke; second in individual medley; third in freestyle and seventh in butterfly.

    Kyle Gilson placed first in both freestyle and individual medley; and second in both backstroke and butterfly.  Steve Goulet placed first in breaststroke, third in both butterfly and individual medley and fourth in freestyle. 
    The next meet is July 14 in Fort Fairfield.

 
Youth soccer

    The Presque Isle Recreation & Parks has begun registration for its youth soccer program at the William V. Haskell Community Center.
    The program is offered to boys and girls entering grades 1-6 this fall.  The registration fee is $18.
    Schedules and rosters will be handed out at the community center Tuesday, Aug. 10 with play beginning Aug. 23 for grades 1-2 and the week of Aug. 17 for grades 3-6.

 
Zumba

    The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is offering ZUMBA classes each Tuesday and Thursday from 5:45-6:45 pm. The drop in fee is $6 for those who haven’t signed up for a member deal. Punch cards are now used for the member deal. A card for 10 sessions may be purchased for $40, and classes will be held through the summer months and for the immediate future. Classes on the first Tuesday of the month will be free for all people, including those on a member deal. For more information call 764-2545 or email adampirec@maine.rr.com.
