WASHBURN — Police are investigating burglaries at two local businesses that occurred something between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning last week.
The first involved theft at White’s Service, located on Main Street.
“The owner contacted the Washburn Police Department reporting he’d discovered the theft upon opening for business around 6 a.m. on July 21,” said Chief Doug Conroy, WPD, investigating officer.
Conroy said entry was gained and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen from the establishment.
“The burglar(s) ransacked an office and stole cash. I contacted the Presque Isle Police Department, requesting Officer Kevin Schumacher and K-9 Hunter respond to try to track the party or parties involved in the theft,” he said.
Schumacher arrived on the scene around 7:30 a.m. and began a track. Hunter followed a trail to a spot where a vehicle may have been parked. Police believe the person(s) responsible may have left an automobile nearby and drove off after breaking into the business.
“Also assisting in the investigation is Evidence Recovery Technician Dan Deschaine, Maine State Police,” said Conroy.
A short time later, a second business reported being burglarized.
“Langille’s was also burglarized the same day or night. The owner reported the incident upon opening around 8:50 a.m. on Wednesday,” said Conroy, noting both facilities appeared to have been hit sometime between closing for business the night before and opening the next morning.
Like White’s, Langille’s case involved the theft of cash from the construction company.
“The owner reported a small amount of cash was taken from an office, located on Langille Drive, just off Route 164 in Washburn,” said Conroy.
Evidence was recovered from both locations. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information as asked to contact Conroy at 455-4043.
