Eatery supports cancer research

PRESQUE ISLE — Burger King guests can help fight childhood cancers by giving $1 to The Jimmy Fund through the A Chance for Kids Program, going on now through Sept. 6 at participating Burger King restaurants in 10 states across the Northeast. With each contribution, restaurant guests will receive a promotion card guaranteed to be a winner with prizes ranging from a Caribbean vacation, airline tickets, theme park admissions and Burger King food.

Locally, the Presque Isle facility at 795 Main Street is among the participants.
Through the A Chance for Kids Program, 552 franchise and company-owned Burger King restaurants set a goal to raise $1.2 million for pediatric cancer research and care at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
“The Burger King family around the world is dedicated to making a difference in the communities in which we work and live,” said Ivette Diaz, director, corporate social responsibility, Burger King Corp. “We are pleased to support our franchisees’ local philanthropic efforts and partner with such a worthy organization as The Jimmy Fund to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.”
A Chance for Kids® and participating Burger King restaurants have raised nearly $9 million over the last 10 years for research and care at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
This year, restaurants in 10 states will participate in the campaign, including: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
A Chance for Kids supports the many young cancer patients who are treated at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s Jimmy Fund Clinic. The lifesaving research conducted at Dana-Farber will ultimately help pediatric cancer patients from around the world.
“It is because of the compassion and support from the Burger King employees and their restaurant  guests that we are able to move forward in our quest to effectively treat cancer, with the ultimate goal of developing cures,” said Suzanne Fountain, director of The Jimmy Fund.
