PORTLAND – Donald R. Sewell Sr., 81, of Elm St., died on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Maine Medical Center in Portland following a brave battle with cancer.
He was born on January 20, 1929 in Monticello, the son of Lester and Phyllis Clark Sewell Sr. He graduated from Houlton High School, Becker Junior College and then later attended the University of Connecticut.
Donald served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Donald worked at United Technologies as a foreman, retiring in 1990 after thirty-five years of service. After retirement Don and his son Rob were in business together for several years before really retiring. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting his own fire wood, and at the age of 74 he built his own home. His happiest times were spent surrounded by his loving family and friends.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lester Sewell Jr.
He is survived by three sons, Frederick M. and his wife Pamela Sewell of Coventry, Conn., Gary L. and his wife Deborah Sewell of Wakefield, RI, Donald R. Jr. and his wife Karen Sewell of Willington, Conn.; two daughters, Sheila A. and her husband, Christopher Muldoon of Brooks, ME, Karen C. and her husband, Randy Survant of Virginia Beach, VA; his companion, Barbara Weeks of Ossipee, NH; a nephew, Brian Sewell of Oklahoma; two nieces, Tylene Kimball of Sangerville, Leslyn Herrick of Abbott; six grandchildren, Mandy, Chad, Stacy, Kelly, Amy, and Abby; five great-grandchildren; goddaughter; and a best friend, David and his wife, Jill Bray of Coventry, Conn.
A celebration of Donald’s life will be held on Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the family home, 59 Elm St., Ossipee, New Hampshire.
