Recreation update

Major League results Rotary 10, Elks 3

    Rotary took on the Elks in the first game of a round-robin. Jason Bartley of Rotary led in the hitting department with two singles and a triple to go 3 for 3. Logan Michaud went 2 for 2 with a single and a double. Also, Kyle Kilcollins, Brycen Libby, Sam Corey and Alex Brewer all had singles for Rotary. 

    For the Elks, Kyle Rider and Steven Kinney each had doubles and Devin Grant followed up with a single to lead the charge for the Elks. Brycen Libby got the win on the mound for Rotary.

 
Kiwanis 4, Rotary 2

    In other round-robin action, Sam Gray of Rotary had a double and a single, while Libby and Gavin Kelley both went 2 for 2 and Brewer had a single. In the winning effort for the Kiwanis, Josiah Morse and Ryan Player each had a single. Player also registered a win on the hill.

 
Junior girls softball

    The Mudcats come from last place during the regular season to claim the playoff championship.
    The Mudcats beat the Rockhounds on Aug. 2 to advance to the championship game. The Mudcats were led offensively by Hailey Cameron with three hits, including a triple and four runs. Emily Colligan and Taylor Williams crossed the plate three times for the winners. The Rockhounds, who played shorthanded, were led by Kelsey Gilson with two hits. Megan Seward crossed the plate three times.
    In the championship game Thursday, the Mudcats pulled away with five runs in the final inning and held on for the 12-10 victory. The difference in the game was the defensive combination of Jordi Legassie and Hailey Cameron for the Mudcats. Neither player committed an error and the combination accounted for eight outs over five innings.
    Offensively the Mudcats were led by Emma Kinney with three hits, followed by Taylor Williams, Hailey Cameron and Samantha Plummer-Morgan with two hits each. Jessica Cameron let the Thunder with two hits, including a triple.
    Megan McKnight, Kalie Ward, Brittany Wilson, Darrian Corey, Shelby Shaw and Lee Ireland all crossed the plate to help the Thunder. The game was tied after four innings, but the Mudcats plated five runs in the top of the fifth inning to rally for the victory.
    Alexis Bell took the mound for the Mudcats in the bottom of the fifth and held the Thunder to one run. Great defensive plays by Legassie and Hailey Cameron prevented the Thunder from mounting a comeback.

 
ZUMBA

    The rec is offering ZUMBA classes each Tuesday and Thursday from 5:45-6:45 p.m. The drop in fee is $6 for those who haven’t signed up for a member deal. Punch cards are now used for the member deal. A card for 10 sessions may be purchased for $40, and classes will be held through the summer months and for the immediate future. Classes on the first Tuesday of the month will be free for all people, including those on a member deal.

 
Birthday parties

    The rec is now hosting birthday parties for ages 4 and up at the Recreation Center in addition to hosting parties at the Indoor Pool.      The recreation center is available Friday and Saturday nights from 6-8 p.m., with one hour of organized gym games included in the rental. Activities vary with age groups, but include wiffleball, soccer, basketball, and kickball. For more information on rentals at the rec, call 764-2545 or email pirec@maine.rr.com.
