    HOULTON – Joyce (Lambert) Saunders, 88, died Aug. 16, 2010. She was born Dec. 16, 1921, in Mars Hill, the daughter of Milton and Mildred (Allen) Lambert.
    Joyce graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1939, and was on the championship basketball team. She was a member of Lydia Putnam Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Houlton Garden Club, was a den mother for Cub Scouts and worked for the U.S. Census Bureau. She married Ralph Saunders, Sept. 7, 1940, and always had an outstanding flower garden.
    She is survived by one son, Terry Leigh Saunders; a daughter, Penny Nevers of Dyer Brook; one granddaughter, Darcy Saunders of Las Vegas; two grandsons, Gregory Nevers and his wife, Tammi, of Oakfield, and Christopher Nevers and his wife, Zana, of Madison, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Vanessa Phipps and her husband, Charles, Jeromy, Adrianna and Dimitri; a great-great-granddaughter, Lillian; many nieces and nephews.
    She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, Jan. 30, 1997; brothers, Winston, Dean, Clair, Blaine, Keith, Duane, Milton Jr., Don, Bryce and Neal; and sisters, Jean Jackins and Crete Gentle.
    Joyce's family thanks the caregivers at Madigan Estates Nursing Home for the outstanding care she received while there.
    Friends called noon-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, where funeral services were held 2 p.m. with the Pastor Sterling Lawrence officiating.
