‘Pedaling for Paws’ fund-raiser to benefit

Central Aroostook Humane Society

PRESQUE ISLE — A dozen fitness fanatics and a dozen fresh-baked cupcakes might not sound like they go together, but they will for a good cause on Saturday, Aug. 28.

This year’s County Spin Off, which is held as part of the Crown of Maine Balloon Fest, will benefit the Central Aroostook Humane Society. Participants will get pledges of at least $120 each for the shelter before jumping on a bike for a three-hour marathon spinning class.
At the same time, the Friends of Central Aroostook Humane Society will be holding a bake sale nearby to bring in some additional funds for the animal shelter.
Both events will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the County Physical Therapy parking lot on North Street in Presque Isle. Spin bikes will be set up outside so riders can enjoy their workout in the fresh air.
Each year, a different charity is selected to be the beneficiary of the Spin Off. With the donations going to help the dogs and cats at the local humane society this year, organizers chose the tagline “Pedaling for Paws.”
The Aroostook Medical Center and County Physical Therapy co-sponsor the Spin Off. Bikes are still available for anyone who would like to participate. Please contact Dawn Poitras at dawnpoitras@tamc.org for more information.
The bake sale will be the first fund-raiser undertaken by the Friends of CAHS. This group of volunteers was formed earlier this year to help the shelter with fund-raising efforts and spreading the word in the community about the humane society’s work. Approximately 25 people are part of Friends currently and anyone is welcome to join. Just send an e-mail to friendsofCAHS@yahoo.com.
The Friends are planning to have cupcakes, cookies, brownies, Rice Krispie treats and other goodies, as well as water and soda available on Aug. 28 for the spinners, spectators and passersby. In addition, CAHS T-shirts and other animal-oriented merchandise will be for sale. All proceeds will go to the animal shelter.
Stop by and treat yourself to a yummy snack while supporting a great cause.
