OAKFIELD, Maine — Anyone looking for a bargain and also a chance to help out a local fire department should make plans to come to the Oakfield Fire Department’s ninth annual Public Auction and Luncheon Saturday, Sept. 25.
Spearheaded by Barb White, the auction/luncheon begins at noon — doors open at 11 a.m. — at the Oakfield Community Center.     Raising money for a good cause is something White has experienced tremendous success with over the years, some events bringing in as much as $10,000. She has also conducted numerous fundraisers for individuals with life-threatening illnesses in the area.
“I just like trying to help people,” she said.
With several hundred items up for auction, chances are there is something to suit every need.
Among the auction items are: six bundles of camp grade log stock donated by Katahdin Forest Products; $250 of oil or kerosene, donated by Daigle Oil; two cords of stove wood, donated by Ralph Bartman and Pat Sawyer; and a cedar chest, donated by Ward Cabin.
