CASWELL — Caswell and Limestone Boy Scouts of Troop 193 held a flag-burning ceremony at the Caswell School on September 15th to properly dispose of a few flags flown by the Dawn F. Barnes Elementary that had become worn and frayed. Students, staff and faculty attended the ceremony, during which Jared Elliott explained the history of the flag and informed the audience about the proper way of disposing of a weathered or frayed flag.

Watching the Boy Scouts properly dispose of the flags, particularly the flag which had flown from the school’s flag pole for the past three years, made students feel sad, according to one bystander, but “proud of its meaning to our country.”
Both during the ceremony and shortly after, teachers of the small Caswell school were almost inundated with questions from curious students who enjoyed being a part of the small ceremony.
Participating Boy Scouts included Jared Elliott, Kevan Vellerreal, Daniel Haley, Benjamin Parent and Andrew Dechaine under the instruction of Scoutmaster Larry Cote.
