Country legend Jackson coming to Aroostook County

    Longtime country music performer Stonewall Jackson is coming this month to the Star City for a benefit concert to help Presque Isle Music Boosters, the Northern Maine Veterans’ Cemetery and Hayward-Frazier VFW Post 2599.
Image    According to the late country DJ Bob Neal, when you speak about the living legends of country music, you can’t overlook Stonewall Jackson.
    “The story of his career measures up to the most unusual fictional accounts that a writer could imagine, but it’s all true,” Neal once said.
    Jackson burst on to the music scene in 1950 with the No. 1 hit “Waterloo.” A string of chart toppers followed, including, “I Wash My Hands In Muddy Water”, “A Wound Time Can’t Erase”, “BJ the DJ”, “Why I’m Walking” and “Don’t Be Angry.” Over the years, the Tabor City, N.C. native has traveled around the world entertaining country music fans from all walks of life. He has released countless CDs, including his latest, “Stonewall Jackson and Super Friends.”
    Jackson, who was the first independent artist to join the Grand Ole Opry, lives with his wife Juanita on a 9-acre lake in Brentwood, Tenn. Along with touring and recording, he also works alongside Juanita in his song publishing company, Turp Tunes.
    Jackson’s Presque Isle tour stop will include two 6 p.m. shows, Friday, Oct. 8 and Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Presque Isle Middle School, 569 Skyway Street. Tickets are $25 general admission or $30 general admission with a meet and greet opportunity.
