SMITH, Marjorie H., 94, PRESQUE ISLE, Sept. 28, 2010. Arrangements in the care of Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, Presque Isle.
PRESQUE ISLE – Marjorie H. Smith, 94, wife of the late Ora (OC) Smith, died peacefully at her home, Tuesday, September 28, 2010. She was born in Bridgewater, May 11, 1916, the daughter of Howard and Harriett (Quick) Sargent.
Marjorie was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She attended the Presque Isle Normal School from 1936 to 1938, then graduated from the Gorham State College in 1939 with a teaching degree. She taught school in Bridgewater for one year until she married and began raising her family.
She is survived by four sons, Kendall Smith of Florida, Thurlow Smith and his wife, Gretchen of Augusta, Harlow Smith and his wife, Judi, and Orlan Smith, all of Presque Isle; three daughters, Cynthia Young of Tenn., Marina Lossez and Melanie Bagley both of Presque Isle; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Marjorie was predeceased by a brother, Chester Sargent; and two sisters, Emma Brewer and Edna Jahn; a daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; and a son-in-law, William Lossez.
Relatives and friends called from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 30, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services were conducted 1 p.m. Friday, October 1, at Bethany Baptist Church on Second St. in Presque Isle, with Rev James Ackerson and Thurlow Smith officiating.
