CARIBOU — Officers of the Caribou Police Department made a quick apprehension and arrest of two individuals involved with the theft of three 400 pound spools of commercial wire from R.L. Todd’s Warehouse on Birdseye Ave early on Sept. 30.

Reported to the department around 7 a.m. that morning, it only took leading officers Sgt. Vincent and Officer Matheson half an hour to arrested Troy Lausier, 32, of Van Buren and Benjamin Montheith, 26, of Caribou on charges of burglary and theft after receiving information that the two were in possession of large amounts of copper wire.

“Some of the stolen wire was recovered, unfortunately, the state in which the wire was recovered makes it unusable,” explained Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan, who expressed that the cooperation from a local business helped officers in their efforts to catch those responsible for the theft.

The monitary value of the wire exceeded $10,000.

Bail was set at $5,000 double surety for Lausier and Monteith, though Monteith was held without bail as he had two outstanding warrants.

Both individuals were transported to the county jail in Houlton.

Officers are still looking into others possibly involved with the incident.
