Soccer playoffs nearing

    It’s now October, which is the month featuring the final regular season games for high schol area soccer teams, as well as a bulk of the playoff action later in the month.    
    The Southern Aroostook Warriors remain the top seed in Class D East, as they picked up the 10th win in 12 outings, defeating Lee Academy 4-2 last Thursday.
    At Dyer Brook, Anthony Diaferio, Patrick Goodall, Joe Frazier and Rob Rockwell all scored for the winners, while Dylan Willett chipped in with an assist. Goalie Jesse Boulier turned back four of seven shots faced.
    For Lee, netkeeper Will Nicholas made 11 saves off 16 shots.
    Earlier in the week, it was the clash of the top-seeded teams in the East and West, as the Warriors battled to a 2-all tie after two overtimes against Greenville on Sept. 28.
    Jake Lassonde spotted the Warriors a 2-0 lead, converting setups by David Dubois and Willette.
    However, Greenville rallied to score two goals in the last 8:25 to force overtime.
    SACS’ goalie Boulier rejected 10 of 15 shots, while Greenville’s Alex Jardine stopped 14 of 19 shots.
    On the girls’ side, the Lady Warriors added two more victories over Lee Academy and Hodgdon.
    Last Thursday in Dyer Brook, Katie Goodall racked up three goals for a hat trick to lead the Southern Aroostook girls to a 6-0 win over Lee. Beth Bishop, Jillian Diaferio and Cassie Garcelon also added tallies, while Jasmine Rockwell made two assists. Goalie Mallary Lawlor saved all six shots.
    For Lee, goalie Felicia Thorton stopped 13 of 29 shots.
    Last Tuesday, the Lady Warriors shut out Hodgdon, 7-0 behind Jasmine Rockwell’s four goals and assist, while twin sister Janel recorded a hat trick. Diaferio and Garcelon each chipped in with an assist. Goalie Lawlor stopped all four shots she faced.
    For Hodgdon, Kim Levesque and Marissa Malone combined to block 10 of 27 shots.
    On Monday, the Hodgdon girls lost to visiting Schenck, 5-1.
    Hodgdon’s Lacey McQuarrie scored off a Britta Oliver corner kick in the second half. Netkeeper Malone turned back 16 of 46 shots.
    For Schenck, Kaprice Tompkins and Mary Watson combined for 17 saves on 19 shot attempts.
    Last Friday during the Lady Hawks’ first meeting with Schenck, Hodgdon dropped a 3-1 decision in East Millinocket.
    Hodgdon’s Oliver scored on a breakaway to put her team ahead 1-0, but Olivia Lewis of Schenck scored a goal in each half, with teammate Kristina Jamo adding the last tally with 27 seconds left.
    Hodgdon’s Malone was peppered with 40 shots, stopping 30, while netkeeper Kristin Thompson turned aside 11 of 13 shots.
    Last Thursday, Katahdin shut out visiting East Grand, 8-0 behind Mickey Savage’s hat trick and assist. Micah Rodgerson added two goals, while Brenden Landry, Megan Merry and Jesse McNally all scored a single tally.
    Katahdin’s Lucas Anderson and Forest Heath each had an assist, while McNally, Savage and Makayla Patterson combined for four saves on six shots.
    For East Grand, netkeeper Alex Brittain blocked 18 of 34 shots for winless East Grand.
    The Vikings were routed by visiting Calvary Chapel last Tuesday, 10-1.
    Logan Crone scored for East Grand, while goalie Brittain made 10 saves on 23 shots.
    Calvary Chapel’s netkeeper Brian Boutot had one save on five shots.
    Last Thursday, the Lady Vikings were blanked by Woodland, 3-0.
    East Grand goalie Kim Armstrong turned back 11 of 20 shots, while Woodland’s Kelsey Wordon stopped nine of 14 shots.
    Last Tuesday, East Grand topped Calvary Chapel, 6-3 behind sophomore Shaunna Beaudoin’s four goals and two assists.
    East Grand’s Lauren Morse scored and added an assist, along with Kaitlyn Beaudoin’s goal. Goalie Armstrong blocked 11 of 27 shots.
    Megan Warman combined with Darcy Vawser in goal for Calvary, making 10 saves on 15 shots, while Vawser made two stops on seven shots.
    Last Wednesday, the Houlton Shires defeated Schenck, 10-1.
