Danforth residents walk miles for a good cause

DANFORTH, Maine — The annual 5K Walk for a Cure for juvenile diabetes was held on Saturday. Last year, there were 27 walkers who raised about $1,300. This year, more than 50 walkers helped raised more than $2,500.
“It seems everyone these days knows someone who is affected by diabetes,” said event co-organizer Lynette Young. “Participants ranged from infants in strollers to grandparents; all walking, running and skipping to show their support.”
The money raised will be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for continued research for a cure for this fast growing disease.
According to Young, Eric Gilman and his children worked extra hard and raised more than $1,000.
The Danforth Fire Department provided traffic control and an escort for safety. Raelene Page and Young, who coordinated this event, thank everyone who supported this walk.
“We hope to see you all again next year,” Young said.
