Conservative voter for Haines

To the editor:
    My family and I recently returned from a one-week moose hunting trip in Zone 5.  Not only were we amazed by the beauty and preservation of the North Maine Woods, but we were amazed by the hospitality of the people with whom we came in contact.  We entered our zone through the Oxbow checkpoint and were welcomed by genuine, friendly and knowledgeable staff.   Our truck was loaded to capacity as we had come with the intention of tenting for the week.  Before we had even left the checkpoint, we had been offered the shower facilities of a local camp owner.  I might add that I was traveling with my wife and two daughters (age 19 and 13)!  On one of our treks for fuel, we traveled through the Six-Mile checkpoint on our way Ashland and spent several minutes taking with Rita who not only answered all our questions, but by the time we left felt like an old friend.
    After successfully bagging our moose on Friday morning we traveled to Mapleton and the meat cutting business of Troy Haines.  Our discussions of moose, bear, and gravel pits eventually led to a discussion of Maine politics; having noticed his District 7 House of Representatives signs along the roadway and dotting many residents’ front yards.   Although we live outside the voting district, my wife and I are relatively conservative Republicans from District 34 in Downeast Maine; Troy Haines would have our vote in November.
    Maine needs a fiscally conservative presence in Augusta; small businesses need the state’s support to sustain and nurture its people and the heritage of the people of Maine.  It is evident that Troy is planning to go to Augusta and work for the best interest of his district and the state.  As all conversations in the state of Maine eventually lead to the weather and another night of rain and high winds were predicted in our zone; Troy gave us directions and offered his cabin to us for the night.  We left the area with beautiful photos, meat for the freezer, fond memories and a renewed respect for the people of the great state of Maine.
