The 37th Annual Caribou Arts and Crafts Festival, held on Oct. 16 and 17, featured 140 vendors and a continuous crowd of shoppers. From metal-crafted items made from rusty rods to paintings, hand-painted Christmas ornaments, homemade chocolate treats, candles and hand-sewn clothes for that favorite Barbie doll, the event  proved  once again to be the perfect venue for anyone attempting to get their holiday shopping done early — while purchasing the occasional item for themselves.

Jo-Ellen Winslow of Van Buren puts the finishing touches to the hem of an item at the recent Arts and Crafts Festival in Caribou. Winslow, whose passion is cross-stitch, learned to sew from her mother at the age of eight and now is accomplished at most any type of needlework including tatting.

From the lobby of the Caribou High School, through the gymnasium and into the cafeteria, not one available vendor space was vacant and according to many of the crafters, shoppers started early in morning and continued throughout the afternoon on both days of the event. The popular event is known as a favorite for crafters statewide and this year was no exception.
