Kenneth B. Estabrook

    Estabrook, Kenneth B., 86, October 23, 2010.  Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Home, Houlton.  Interment to be held in the North Amity Cemetery.
    AMITY – Kenneth B. Estabrook, “Pop,” 86, died Oct. 23, 2010, in Houlton. He was born June 11, 1924, in Davidson, son of Shirley and Dorothy (Martin) Estabrook.
    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in 75th Infantry Division serving in World War II. He served in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes and Battle of the Rhine. He was decorated with the European Africa Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal – Germany.
    He was a pioneer in the woods industry, having one of the first chainsaws, hydraulic loaders and skidders. He was also one of the first to hook up a set of dollies wheels to a 10-wheeler in order to carry more wood. He was a woods contractor for Great Northern Paper for more than 25 years. Kenneth farmed for many years. He was a selectman, fire warden and road commissioner for the town of Amity.
    He is survived by his wife, Donna (Thompson) Estabrook of Amity; four children, Barry Estabrook and Sandra Hare of Linneus, Daniel Estabrook of Littleton, Colo., Steven and Deanna Estabrook of Houlton and Dorothy Estabrook of Houlton; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine and Gene Amnott of Mars Hill, JoAnn and Melvin Anderson of Hancock and Mary Butterfield of Topsfield; one brother, Teddy Estabrook of Cary Plantation; a brother-in-law, Hazen Gartley; two aunts, Faye Ireland and Queenie Boles; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Mickey; and two sisters, Janice Gartley and Avril Estabrook.
    Friends called 6-8 p.m. Monday at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton, where funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday with Barbara Ballentine and Sharon Martyn officiating. Interment with full military honors was at North Amity Cemetery. A time of fellowship followed at Linneus Sno Club.
