Wilfred Bell, 83, of Caribou is seeking to be re-elected to the position of County Treasurer, (as a write-in candidate) which he currently occupies and is also president of the Maine Association of County Treasurers.
Bell, a supermarket manager for 33 years has been involved in the city of Caribou since 1958 when he was a member of the Caribou Representative Form of Government.
A veteran political candidate, Bell’s involvement in municipal, county and state government has included being a former mayor of Caribou, president of Aroostook County Municipal Association; executive committee member of the Maine Municipal Association; vice president, Maine Conference of Mayors; Maine state Legislator (two terms); and president, Maine Association for County Treasurers.
Bell stated that he sees the most important issues facing Aroostook County are, “The county budget’ including cuts from federal and state agencies and the consolidation of county jails.” If re-elected, Bell said his primary goal would be, “To serve Aroostook County in its efforts to remain one of the best county governments in Maine.”
“I seek re-election supported by my experience and the desire to continue serving the citizens and the County,” stated Bell.
Wilfred Bell and his wife Cecile, are the parents of seven grown children.
