Huskies clinch second

MILO — The Huskies clinched second place in the Aroostook Football League standings following Saturday’s 59-0 shutout over Milo. The Huskies will play their final game of the season this Saturday, Oct. 30 as they host BCH.

The 2010 Awards Banquet for the high school program will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Presque Isle Inn and Convention Center. The check-in will be from 6-7 p.m. with dinner starting at 7 p.m. Players who turn in their equipment in good shape are invited as guests of Aroostook Football. All others are invited at a cost of $18 per person.
In Saturday’s game, the Huskies had to overcome several injuries and illnesses in the win over the Panthers.
“Despite missing Codie Robbins at QB (out with an ankle injury), Tony Curtis at RB (out with a concussion) and Tyler Grant (out with flu) and losing Wes Holmes (hip injury) and Jordan Mitchell (ankle injury) for most of the second half, everyone stepped up to help us win,” coach Stu Wyckoff said.
Jordan Banks led the Huskies in scoring with two touchdown receptions from Wes Holmes; an interception return for a touchdown; and a punt return for his fourth score.
Deion Caudill rushed for three touchdowns, while Garrett DeLong scored his first career touchdown when he intercepted a pass and returned it for a score.
Trey Stewart, filling in for Holmes at quarterback, also scored on a keeper from 20 yards out. Caudill, Stewart, Allan White, Mitchell and Sean Cullinan all contributed extra points.
“Combined with BCH’s loss to the Mustangs today, we have clinched second place in the Maine State Eight Man Football League for this season. All we have left to accomplish for our 6-2 season will be beating BCH next Saturday.”
