The United Methodist Women’s Group of Washburn will be holding their annual Christmas Craft and Food sale on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lidstone Memorial United Methodist Church on Hines Street in Washburn.
There will be lots of crafts available along with some delicious pies, homemade beans and bread as well as salads and cookies. All are welcome to go and enjoy the sale and have a cup of coffee, a muffin and enjoy fellowship with friends and neighbors.

Pumpkin Painting Day was recently held at the Washburn Rec Center. This event was sponsored by Cary Medical Center as part of the annual Healthy You program. It was very well-attended and there was lots of fun to go around. Choosing their favorite pumpkins from left are: Evan Dickinson, Hunter Campbell, Robert Sabatis and Tami Kilcollins.

Town-wide information

There will be a rabies clinic on Saturday, Nov. 6, from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at the Washburn Fire Department bay. Dr. Pesut from the Presque Isle Animal Hospital will be administering the shots, and the clinic is open to the general public. The cost will be $10 per shot and tags for dog registration will be available for Washburn residents. That fee is $7 for spayed/neutered dogs and $12 if not.

The next scheduled meeting of the Washburn Town Council will be held on Monday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Washburn Civic Center.

A large selection of coats from the Salvation Army Coat Program is available at the Town Office. An assortment of hand-knit hats and mittens donated by local residents is also available. Stop by and see the staff about picking coats out.
The Washburn Town Office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veteran’s Day.
Senior Class members are selling raffle tickets for a large Thanksgiving basket donated by the Washburn Food Mart with the drawing set to take place on Wednesday, Nov. 15, and the cost of tickets is $1 each or six for $5. All proceeds will go to 2011 Project Graduation events. The seniors will also be delivering pizzas from the Food Mart during November. For further information, contact Angela Farley at 455-8048.

Redemption center changes

Gerald and Darcy Carney have recently named the last day of each month as Customer Appreciation Day, and one ticket will be drawn from the “bucket” for a the $30 prize.
The amount of bottles entitling customers to enter their ticket has been lowered and rather than the former $5, each customer carrying in bottles worth $2.50 or more is encouraged to fill out a ticket. The customer hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. There are also several non-profit causes that the center helps including Boy Scouts and Project Graduation. Residents wishing to donate their bottles to any of these may drop their bottles off and let Gerald or Darcy know which cause you wish to donate to.

Rec center schedule

Beginning in November, basketball for grades K through 3 will be starting, and registrations forms will be sent home with the children from school. Also in November, there will be the Elks Hoop Shoot — a basketball competition in conjunction with the phys ed classes at the school and is open for children ages 8-13.
On Monday, Nov. 8, there will be men’s basketball at the high school gym from 7 to 9 p.m.

Cyr to attend college

Gene Cyr, son of Dan Cyr and Denise Cyr, of Washburn, has been accepted to the University of Northern Ohio in Lima, Ohio, to begin classes in the June session where he will be majoring in the high performance program. He attends Washburn District High School.
