A good waitress always keeps an eye on her tables, and Little Miss Limestone Kennedy Bencivenga proved to be little-miss-waitress-extraordinaire with her handy-dandy clipboard during the annual dinner meeting of the Greater Limestone Chamber of Commerce, where Bencivenga and her fellow Limestone queens helped serve the guests.
Duties of the newly appointed begin right away, as the GLCC will be organizing and hosting the first holiday parade of the season in just over three weeks. Throughout the year, chamber members host the Citizen of the Year Banquet, fund-raise for and organize the highly celebrated Fourth of July events in Limestone, and promote the town’s businesses as well as the town through fun, creative means.
Recently the chamber hasn’t been alone in its mission to create a thriving business atmosphere in town; grant writer David Wylie has been working with the town for years to obtain funding for infrastructure improvements as well as community and economic development.
After his presentation, Wylie fielded questions from community members specifically regarding economic development.
President of the Limestone Rotary Club Dottie Martin also gave Chamber members a presentation regarding Rotary activities in the community and beyond.
Many of the programs and projects orchestrated by Rotarians wouldn’t be possible without the help and support of Limestone’s businesses and community members, such as the Holiday Food Baskets and the Rotary Backpack Project, and the Limestone Rotary Scholarships funded through the annual Limestone Rotary Auction. One project in particular who’s success is directly linked to community participation and involvement is the Town Clock project, which will have a stunning visual impact on all who drive through the small town once it’s completed. Rotarians have been working on bringing this project to fruition for the past three years
Chamber members also voted new representation onto the Board of Directors during their annual business meeting, electing a total of nine directors.
