Open gym
The Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium and game room is open to the public for drop-in free play on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6-8:30 p.m., Saturdays from noon-4 p.m. (until pee-wee and youth basketball begin) and Sundays from noon-4 p.m. The Community Center is also open each day after school from 2:30-5 p.m. for drop-in free play until Friday, Nov. 12, at which time only the game room will be open after school for drop-in activities. There is no charge to participate.
Zumba
Zumba dance classes are held at the Fort Fairfield Elementary School gym each Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Kim Griffeth is the primary instructor. The cost for participation is $40 for 10 classes. For more information, call Griffeth at 551-6961.
Adult basketball
The Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium is open for adult drop-in basketball (18 years old and older) on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. Teams are selected each night from all those in attendance. The cost is $2 each night or $40 for the entire season. If there is sufficient interest amongst the players in forming an adult league for the season, a league may be established to include scheduled games.
Co-ed volleyball
Co-ed volleyball for individuals high school age and older will be held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium every Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. starting Nov. 7. Play is informal with teams being selected each night from all those in attendance. There is no charge to participate and all are welcome to attend.
Pee wee and youth basketball
Pee wee basketball for boys and girls in grades 2 and 3 and youth basketball for boys and girls in grades 4-6 begins Saturday, Nov. 6 at the Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium with clinics being held. There will be a clinic for boys and girls in grades 4-6 (youth basketball) from 8:30-10 a.m. followed by a clinic for grades 2 and 3 (pee-wee basketball) from 10-11:30 a.m.
Following the clinic, games or practices will be held on Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings for the youth players in grades 4-6. Games or practices will be held Saturday afternoons and Tuesday evenings for the pee-wee players in grades 2 and 3. Both the pee-wee and youth basketball programs will continue play through the beginning of February 2011. Registration forms will be distributed at school or can be picked up at the Community Center. There is no charge to participate. Adults interested in helping to coach one of the pee-wee or youth teams this season should contact the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department at 472-3882.
Indoor walking and jogging
The Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium is open to the public for walking, jogging and exercising Monday through Friday from 6 a.m.-noon (except on holidays). There is no charge to participate.
G-Force Laser Tag
Laser tag will be held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center on the following Saturdays from 4-8 p.m.: Nov. 13, Dec. 18 (jousting/bouncing castle also on site) Jan. 22 and Feb. 19. The cost is $3 per game or $10 for a two-hour session.
Cross country ski rentals
The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will rent out cross-country ski packages again this winter. Equipment will be made available starting the first week of December. The department has purchased several new ski packages this year to help accommodate the increased demand for rentals that has been experienced over the past several years. The cost to rent a complete package for the entire winter is $25 for the first family member and $20 for each additional family member. More information will be forthcoming in November regarding the ski rental program and the youth ski programs.
