Campbell receives Rotary service award

    WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) extended her congratulations to Sharon Campbell, regional representative in Senator Snowe’s Presque Isle Office, on being honored with the Past District Governor Frank Hussey Award from Rotary District 7810.
    At the Nov. 1 Rotary Club meeting in Presque Isle, Sen. Snowe’s State Director, Gaily Kelly, presented Campbell with a framed statement from the Congressional Record.
    “I could not be more pleased that Sharon was recently bestowed with the prestigious PDG Frank Hussey Award – a well-deserved honor that truly recognizes her selfless commitment to Aroostook County and Maine,” said Sen. Snowe.  “As I have witnessed firsthand, time and again, through her exemplary work for me and her profound dedication to increasing literacy in the County,  Sharon has exemplified the motto of our great state, ‘Dirigo’ or ‘I lead,’ many times over.”

    Campbell, a Houlton native and resident of Presque Isle, has worked for Sen. Snowe since 1999, and became her regional representative in 2004, covering the Aroostook County region. For the past two years, she has led the Rotary’s Literacy and Thesaurus Project, which distributes thesauruses and books to area children.
    The Presque Isle Rotary Club is a member of Rotary District 7810, which encompasses the Province of New Brunswick, Canada, and Aroostook and Washington Counties in Maine.  The Presque Isle Rotary Club has a membership of around 100 individuals. Campbell was inducted into the Rotary in 2001 and served as club president in 2006-07.
