Family is grateful for caring community

To the editor:
    Saying “thank you” just doesn’t even begin to express our gratitude to the many individuals we would like to thank. There just aren’t words to express what we should say and what we would like to say. I will try to list some, but I am sure I have forgotten some.
    First and foremost we would like to thank the Houlton Fire Department for all their work trying to extinguish the fire at our house on Oct. 25th. They fought long and hard for us and we are deeply grateful for them and their hard work.
    We would also like to thank Houlton Police Department officer Kris Calaman. Kris, your presence there throughout the whole ordeal was very much appreciated. At a time when we as a family felt “numb” to our situation, you patiently helped us to make sure all questions got answered appropriately, directing people who wanted to help to us, and helping in many other ways to assure that everyone around kept safe.
    Thank you to our many neighbors that offered much needed help during that time: Kim Thompson – from getting a blanket and boots for Ryan to wear to bringing the fire crew donuts and coffee; Deanne Rogan and Meryem – for bringing coffee and support; Major Irma Pearl and the Salvation Army for the help and clothing; Penny Richardson – for a place to get warm during the whole ordeal; Bev Erickson – for all the help you gave us; Lynnette Dobbs from the Red Cross for her help; and all of the other people who stopped and offered help and words of encouragement. Also we would like to thank the various businesses that have helped in our time of need, thank you so much.
    I know I have missed mentioning some, but please know that we are truly thankful and appreciative of all that you have done for us. One doesn’t realize just how special this town is until something like this happens. The love and support we have received have been phenomenal! Thank you very much to all!
    We can only hope that we can pay it forward to others in need. Thank you!
