ISLAND FALLS — A book signing was held at the Katahdin Public Library in Island Falls for author Beverly Rand, who was on hand to personalize his newest publication, “My Story: the Life of a Maine Potato and Dairy Farmer.”
This biographical writing is the latest of 95-year-old Rand’s stories and sketches. It tells of his youth and school years, his many years on the farm in Sherman and of the later years of retirement at Pleasant Pond, Island Falls, in Florida and now at Woodland Heights Housing, Island Falls.
Rand’s story tells how he was born in 1915 in the same room in which his father had been born on the family farm and ends with the musing that perhaps he might live to see 100.
Assisting at the signing were Rand’s daughter, Betty, and son Stuart and Alice Briggs. Attending were friends, neighbors and family from Island Falls, Sherman and away. Bev signed each book with a best wishes message and visited with each attendee. Laura Bomba, president of Katahdin Club of Island Falls, representing former Representative Henry Joy, presented a sentiment from the Maine Legislature to Bev. Refreshments were served.
Copies of the book are available at Katahdin Public Library, PO Box 148, Island Falls, ME 04747.
