Southern Aroostook Cultural Arts Project (SACAP) presents Human Aura by Fredericton, N.B. artist, Rita Sassani, with an opening night reception on Dec. 3, in the Blue Moon Gallery at Visions, 66 Main St., Houlton.
Sassani is an artist based in Fredericton, N.B. and is a graduate of NBCCD. She focuses on painting, sculpting and batik art.
Her works are based on live models; expressive in nature and characterized by movement, intense color and abstract composition. They are found in private collections, gallery displays and exhibitions in Canada, the U.S. and abroad.
Select solo exhibitions from 2007-2010 include: Frazee Gallery, City Gallery and the St. Johns Art Centre in St. John, N.B.; Sunbury Shores in St. Andrews, N.B.; the Charlotte Glencross Gallery and the West & East Galleries in Fredericton, N.B. Selected group exhibitions include: NBCC Gallery, Charlotte Glencross Gallery, Old Government House in Fredericton, Kingsbrae Art Gallery in St. Andrews, and an international exhibition at the Institute La Ville d’Europe, Paris, France in 2007.
She is active on the arts scene and a member of numerous arts councils and alliances; including Fredericton Arts Alliance, CARFAC, Board of NB Crafts Council and Gallery Connexion and others.
The ‘Human Aura’ exhibit will be on display from Dec. 3, 2010, through Jan. 21, 2011. Expressing the human figure in movement, the artist uses live models in her paintings. The figures are treated as composition of shapes, with the use of intense colors flowing from the abstract human forms to convey the human aura emanating from within.
