The Maine Epsilon Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met Nov. 18 at Wilma Cambridg’s.
Carol Bell presented an informative program on the Presque Isle Historical Society. While maintaining the Estey House, the organization’s goal is to raise funds to restore and maintain the Fire Station they acquired in 2001. Long-term goals are to build a barn at the Estey House and open the first floor of the Fire Station. As it takes $10,000 a year to maintain the Fire Station, they are busy writing grants and raising funds.
The Historical Society has many presentations available. The next one will be Dec. 7 at Edmunds Conference Center at NMCC. Calendars and bracelets are being sold to raise funds for the Society. Walking tours are also offered throughout the year. Members presented Carol a donation to help meet the organization’s goals.
President Judy Kenney opened the meeting with 21 members present. Secretary, treasurer and committees reports were given and discussed. The group voted to donate to the Red Cross, give children’s books for the Dec. 4 Light Parade, a Thanksgiving basket to a needy family and a Battered Women’s project for Christmas. The children’s books need to be at Tammy Walton’s by Nov. 30.
Iris Towle won the 50/50 fund. Happy Dollars were shared. Refreshments were served by Bonnie Cowett, Lucy Adams and Ellen Helstrom. The next meeting will be the annual Christmas Party Dec. 16 at Nancy Nichols’ home.
Upward Bound Alumni and former instructors are invited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Upward Bound program at the UMPI campus. The Star City Seniors met at the Methodist Church on Fleetwood St. on Nov. 11, for their regular meeting and potluck luncheon. There were 24 members present.
President Donna Devoe welcomed all members to the club.
The secretary and treasurer’s reports were given and accepted . Officers were elected for 2011: president, Donna Devoe; vice-president, Barbara Buchanan; secretary, Darlene Murphy; treasurer, Dolores Raymond; and director, Frank Allen. Congratulations.
Willard Green brought up the lunches at PIHS on Wednesdays for $3.50, held during the regular school year, except when school is not in session.
Next meeting for the club will be Nov. 18, with bingo and pizzas. There will be no meeting Nov. 25 or Dec. 2, but there will be one Dec. 9 with an auction. The club will be going to Bonanza for Christmas dinner Dec. 23. The Presque Isle Elks will be having their senior soup and bingo on Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. for $3.50. Also the Elks’ Christmas party for any seniors will be Dec. 25 at 11 a.m. More information as time nears.
The club took a moment to thank all military men and women, past and present, who have been dedicated to their country.
The Fort Fairfield Rotary Club, in conjunction with the Knights of Columbus, VFW and other organizations are sponsoring the annual Thanksgiving dinner.
The dinner will be provided to community members, especially those who are seniors and/or homebound. Dinner will be served Nov. 25 at 11:59 a.m. at the Fort Fairfield VFW, located at 64 Presque Isle St., for those who are able to attend. Meals for homebound individuals will be delivered around 11:30 a.m. Call 472-3800 to reserve a dinner.
