ISLAND FALLS – Wayne C. McKeen, 75, died Nov. 26, 2010, at home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 3, 1935, in Bridgewater, the son of Frank and Marion (Ketchum) McKeen.
He graduated from Bridgewater Classical Academy in 1953 and served his country in the U.S. Army Military Police while stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After his service he returned to the county where he married his wife of 49 years, Bonnie Lewis. Wayne farmed in the Bridgewater and Mars Hill areas for many years until he and his family moved to Island Falls, where he worked for Island Falls Cedar Products until his retirement. He was a member of Island Falls Lodge No. 206 AF & AM, and also attended Dyer Brook Community Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Debra Kelleher and husband, J.P., of Bucksport and Linda Libby and husband, Darryn, of Hermon; six grandchildren, Paul Kelleher and wife, Ann, of Madison, Wis., Patrick Kelleher and wife, Erin, of Lisbon Falls, Jessica Weatherbee of Portland, Benjamin Kelleher of Bucksport, Brody Libby and Lyndsee Libby of Hermon; four siblings, Keith McKeen and wife, Kathleen, of Bridgewater, Helena Porter of Island Falls, Barbara Archibald and husband, Philip, of Madison, Wis., and Mary Lou Hills and husband, Peyton, of Syracuse, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Dottie Wheeler of Bridgewater; many nieces and nephews that were all special to him. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Eugene McKeen; in-laws, Vaughn and Elsie Lewis; and brothers-in-law, Galen Porter and Edgar Wheeler.
Friends may call noon-2 p.m. Friday at Bowers Funeral Home, 56 Sherman St., Island Falls, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. with the Rev. Andy Harthorne officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Island Falls Cemetery.
