At the November meeting of the Mapleton Cub Scout Pack 170, three Scouts were given special recognition for their efforts during the annual popcorn fundraiser.

Dustin Alward earned third place, Liam Woodworth second place, and Holden Stoutamyer was named first place for the most popcorn sold.

Holden sold $832 worth of popcorn and was the top seller for the pack. Liam sold $757, and Dustin sold $600 of popcorn.

Each boy received a marshmallow crossbow and gift cards for their hard work.

All together, Pack 170 sold $4,764 worth of popcorn. Parents and Scout leaders are proud of all the boys’ efforts and thank the Mapleton community for supporting the boys in Scouting. Enjoy your popcorn!

Christmas church service

The West Chapman Advent Christian Church will be hosting its Sunday School Christmas program this Sunday, Dec. 19 at 9:30 a.m. The program will include skits, readings, music and snacks. The public (as well as the family and friends of the Sunday School children) is welcome to attend. Childcare for Christmas shopping

Local students planning to attend Youth 2011 are hosting two Christmas shoppers’ childcare evenings (one in Mapleton and one in Washburn). We will watch your child(ren) in Mapleton and Washburn so that you can go do your last-minute Christmas shopping (maybe even dinner out)! We will provide supper, crafts and entertainment. Adult supervision will be provided. All we ask for is a donation for our trip to Youth 2011!

All money raised will help send the kids to Youth 2011 next summer. Youth 2011 is the national youth gathering for the United Methodist Church. It is an event that only happens every four years and is the largest single gathering of UMC youth in existence. This four-day conference will bring together top United Methodist leaders, as well as the best ecumenical speakers, bands and talent with thousands of youth from all around the nation.
