Mrs. Swallow’s and Mrs. Hynick’s fifth grade classes at Mill Pond School in Hodgdon sponsored an annual food drive for local food pantries. After reading a story in class about children who make a difference for others, they began their own community project. Students and staff from the entire school give to help them meet a goal of 1,000 items. This year, they collected 969 items. Mrs. Harbison, the school assistant principal, made a gingerbread house to raffle, which enabled the classes to donate a check of about $107. The donation was made to the St. Mary’s Food Pantry in Houlton.
