“NESHRM is very happy to present our scholarship to such an outstanding student,” said LaNiece Winslow, NESHRM president. “One of our organizational goals is to promote the HR profession. These scholarships allow us to help local students pursue careers in the business field. We hope to someday see these students return to our group as business professionals employed by local businesses.”
Williams, a first-year student enrolled in NMCC’s business administration program, aspires to become a human resources manager. The single mother of three young girls enrolled at NMCC this fall after more than a decade in the workforce.
“I am most grateful to receive this scholarship. It is an investment in me, my future and my career goals,” said Williams. “I will likely use the scholarship on textbooks for next semester when I will be studying entrepreneurship, spreadsheet applications for business, business communications and principles of accounting II.”
As part of the application process, applicants submitted a resume, detailing traits of leadership and service to the school and community, as well as recommendations from instructors and others in the community. NMCC business administration instructor Pam Crawford recommended Williams for the NESHRM scholarship.
“It is always a pleasure to recommend a deserving student for a scholarship and then to see her earn it against the area competition. Krissy is a highly motivated, enthusiastic student who takes her studies seriously,” said Crawford. “She has already demonstrated a keen desire to further her education in the area of management, particularly human resources management. As such, her award from NESHRM is especially meaningful.”
