Accident causes traffic delays

PRESQUE ISLE — Downtown traffic flow was slowed to a crawl on Dec. 30, as emergency personnel worked to clear two vehicles from the intersection of Park and Main streets following a lunchtime crash.
“Shari Clegg, 56, of Presque Isle, was driving north on Main Street driving a Ford Focus. Michelle Andersen, 40, of Presque Isle, was driving west on Allen Street in a Honda CRV. The vehicles collided at the intersection,” said Officer Kevin Schumacher, Presque Isle Police Department.

TRAFFIC was backed up for about a half hour Dec. 30 in Presque Isle as emergency personnel worked to clear debris from a two-vehicle accident between Shari Clegg, of Presque Isle, and Michelle Andersen, of Presque Isle, at the intersection of Main and Park streets.
Schumacher said both drivers were taken to The Aroostook Medical Center by Crown Ambulance for observation and later released.
“Both were wearing seatbelts and the airbags deployed in both vehicles. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage,” Schumacher said.
At this point, Schumacher said no charges will be filed, although the accident is still under investigation.
“I’m waiting on more witnesses to come forward,” said Schumacher.
Traffic was slowed to a crawl for about a half hour as firefighters from the Presque Isle Fire Department cleared debris from the street.
