Ian Mark Carpenter is the first New Year’s Baby born at Cary Medical Center and the first new arrival in Aroostook County. Baby Ian arrived at 2:35 p.m. on New Year’s Day.

Baby Ian, the couple’s first child, was the first baby born at CMC for the new year, arriving on January 1, at 2:35 p.m., weighing 8 pounds and 3 ounces. The New Year ‘s Day arrival was not only the first baby born at CMC but also holds the honor of being the first born in Aroostook  County in 2011.

According to Bill Flagg, director of community relations and development at Cary Medical Center this New Year’s Day birth is the first time in nine years since the first baby of the new year in Aroostook  county was born at the Caribou hospital.

Maternal grandparents are Debbie and Butch Beaulieu of Presque Isle and paternal grandparents are Rosanne and Ralph Carpenter of Woodstock, N.B.

The New Year’s baby and his parents were presented with gifts from the hospital and the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary. Each year Cary Auxiliary members personally donate gift and handmade items for a New Year’s Baby Basket, which includes items for the baby and for Mom and Dad. This year Phil’s Florist of Caribou donated the wrapping and bow for the gift basket. Auxiliary members have coordinated this project and made personal donations for the past six years to the first baby born in the new year at Cary.

With about 20 active members, the Cary Medical Center Auxiliary continues to thrive, supporting the hospital by hosting various fundraisers with proceeds supporting hospitals projects.
