The Presque Isle hockey team was able to put a halt to a three-game losing streak Thursday, using a goal by Isaac LaJoie with 1:24 to play to break a tie for a 3-2 victory over Winslow at the Forum.

LaJoie had put the Wildcats on top 2-1 at the 7:31 mark of the third period, with Josh MacFarline and Jacob Buck picking up assists, but the Black Raiders tied the score with 3:40 remaining to set up LaJoie’s late-game heroics.

Trailing 1-0 after two periods, Jordan Hallett scored for Presque Isle off an Adam Flynn assist 2:09 into the third to knot the score.

The Wildcats held a 30-21 shot advantage in the match. MacFarline played the entire game in net for PI.

The ’Cats dropped their other two games last week. PI fell at home to Bangor last Tuesday, 5-1. PI freshman Tyler Seeley scored his first career goal in the first period to tie the game at 1, but the Rams scored four unanswered goals the rest of the way. LaJoie picked up the assist on Seeley’s goal.

The Rams scored three times on the power play and ended up with a 45-17 advantage in shots on goal.

On Monday, PI lost at Brewer, 8-2, in a rematch of last year’s Eastern Maine championship.

The Wildcats fell behind early, but a LaJoie unassisted goal tied it and Cody Merrill scored what appeared to be a go-ahead goal. However, it was disallowed and Brewer then scored three unanswered goals before the period ended to take a 4-1 lead.

The Witches scored two more goals in the second and took a 7-1 lead with a goal early in the third period before PI finally got back on the board with a Seeley goal off a LaJoie assist at the 6:38 mark.

Brewer held a 37-9 shot advantage in the first two periods, but PI outshot the Witches in the third, 21-3. MacFarline handled the goalie chores throughout the game for Presque Isle, now 2-4 on the season.
