The lack of typical snowfall has not diverted the Portage Lakers Snowmobile Club from hosting one of its most popular events. The club will be hosting its annual snowmobile runs this Sunday, Jan. 16 from 9 a.m.-noon on the lake. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with the first race scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. There will be races in a variety of classes, so there is plenty of excitement for the whole family. Coffin’s General Store has plenty of sandwiches, drinks and snacks on hand while Dean’s Restaurant has a full menu to fill you up before (or after) your big race. Come on out to Portage Lake and join in the fun!
Ashland and Oxbow to host Family Fun Day
The local ski club will once again host a Family Fun Day in Ashland and Oxbow. Thanks to the efforts of the dedicated club members, the Maine Winter Sports Center trailer will be set up at both posts, with cross country skiing equipment available (that day) to borrow, for those who do not own ski equipment, but have an interest in trying it. Of course, you are still welcome to participate if you have your own equipment. Whether it’s your first time on skis or you’re an avid skier, this is an activity arranged to get people outdoors to enjoy this fabulous winter sport while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
On Saturday, Jan. 22, the club and trailer will be at Chase Farm in Ashland from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The Chase’s and club members will have some hot chicken stew with rolls, cookies and hot chocolate available on the trail to help keep you warm!
Sunday, Jan. 23 they will then be at Bill and Joan Johnson’s house in Oxbow from 1-4 p.m. The Johnson’s house is located at 756 Oxbow Road.
The club will accept donations and any money taken in will be used primarily to purchase fuel for the (snowsled) groomer.
