Mrs. Janette Parady, fully recovered from major surgery, is still managing the Agape Food Pantry and would like to sincerely thank all who so generously donated this past year. This includes the Island Falls Ambulance and Fire Department, area town offices, area churches, area schools, Island Falls Summerfest, Boy Scouts and area businesses and clubs plus many anonymous donations. It is through the generosity of all these people that they are able to continue to help those in need. Mrs. Ava Joy has been released from the hospital in Bangor where she was admitted last week with pneumonia and everyone wishes her a complete recovery. I had an e-mail from the DeLongs in Florida and they say it was the coldest December on record down there in Brooksville. They will return this summer for an extended visit in the area. I have heard from Clayton Varney and he says that he is counting the days until he can return to Island Falls and stay at his camp on Mattawamkeag Lake. He is now in Winterport at the home of his son, Nicky.
The County Music Jamboree held every Wednesday at the snowmobile club on Route 2 is still going strong and at a recent get-together Clayton Webb, who sings occasionally at these affairs, was asked to do so many encores of the good old songs that it about played him out. I guess people really like the “oldies” the best.
I now have another red squirrel attacking the feeders and the poor little birds have to wait their turn even more. I haven’t seen the big gray squirrel in awhile, but I imagine he is not far off. Sure keeps me busy filling those five feeders and now the deer have come back as I have had three or four of them tromping through the snow in my back yard. I am putting out apples and bread for them and they are certainly getting rid of it pretty fast. Good exercise, running out to feed all the wild animals!
Patten Seniors meet
Patten Senior Citizens met on Jan. 18 at Meadowbrook Manor with 11 members present.
The Lord’s Prayer was recited by the members before the potluck meal.
After the meal, the business meeting was opened by President Annette Noyes, who also led the flag salute. Secretary and treasurer reports were read and accepted.
Cards were signed and sent to Raymond Porter and Therlie St. Germaine. The birthday cake was made by Joyce Harvey and “Happy Birthday” was sung to Gloria Noyes for December and Nettie Shorey and Annette Noyes for January birthdays.
The next meeting will be on Feb. 1. The Game will be played.

Ricker Rumblings

Are you shoveled out yet? Some places aren’t by this Sunday! Let’s hope they do soon. We have a new tenant. His name is John Duda. I have no other information, but hope he lives a long and joyful life at our Ricker community.
The weather is cold, cold and cold. We have been busy moving our cars from one side to the other. Of course, our angels help us. We have more than one here now. Thank you, angels.
We wish all who are sick, get better quick. On Wednesday of last week we had a nice wedding reception for Paul Armstrong and his bride, Jeannie Gloria Hall. They both had corsages, and Lavina Byron played “Here Comes the Bride,” as they entered the community room. Lavina played many songs on the keyboard and our game was “Name that Tune.” Some prizes were given and Priscilla Brownlow was the winner of one. We sang songs and Norma Bates, Lavina’s sister, told us the story of when she was a schoolteacher in Linneus and her late husband George pursued her. It was a nice story. For food, we had delicious sandwiches, cheese sticks, American chop suey, rolls, peanut butter balls, Rice Krispie squares, and a chocolage angel food cake with chocolate frosting and decorations. Paul told some jokes and Jeannie said she was very happy. All in all, it was a nice time for the couple. Thanks to all who helped make this possible, Charlene, Lavine and Lois.
Blaine Johnson has a large television he wants to sell. You can reach him at 441-6725. One of the tenants lost a beautiful double wedding band design quilt. It was left on the table in the mail room last Sunday. If you have this quilt, please return it to apartment 317.
Did we mention that Opal Crane moved to live with her daughter. We miss you Opal. Thanks for sending the angels to us, Lord. May you all have a wonderful week. Keep warm and do everything you can to help each other. See you next week.
