Make it 11 wins on the season for the Presque Isle Wildcats, which vanquished Old Town Saturday behind solid defense and the three-point shooting of senior guard Travis Dyer.

The ’Cats are in fifth place in Eastern Maine Class B with their 11-1 mark. Camden Hills and Ellsworth are both unbeaten and hold the top two spots in the division.

The Fort Fairfield Tigers won a pair of games played in the St. John Valley last week and Washburn also had a 2-0 week, which helped set up last night’s crucial Class D matchup between the No. 9 Tigers and No. 4 Beavers in Fort Fairfield.

Central Aroostook remained undefeated and in first place in the ‘D’ Heal Point rankings following Saturday’s win in Dyer Brook over Southern Aroostook. The 12-0 Panthers play at Hodgdon Thursday before hosting Washburn in what could be a matchup between a pair of undefeated teams.

Ashland won its fourth game of the season Saturday, beating Van Buren with a tremendous late-game comeback. All of the Hornets’ wins have come on their new home floor. Ashland is in 11th place the the division.

Easton, which lost by 15 points at Washburn Saturday despite a career-best 22 points from junior Cody Tompkins, wraps up the month with games against Ashland and Limestone-MSSM. The Bears are currently in sixth place with their 8-4 mark.

Summaries of games played through Jan. 24 are as follows:

Presque Isle 58, Old Town 37 – At Old Town Saturday, the Wildcats took a seven-point lead at intermission after the score was tied after the first quarter and then cruised to their 11th win of the season.

Travis Dyer and Alex Tuttle were the leading scorers for Presque Isle with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Dyer connected for four three-point field goals.

Washburn 72, Easton 57 – The Beavers finally shook off the Bears in the fourth quarter as the two teams played before a capacity crowd at Washburn District High School Saturday.

Jordan McLaughlin netted 27 points and also collected six steals as the Beavers remained undefeated at 10-0. Mitch Worcester totaled 22 points and Connor Fitzpatrick added 10 for the winners.

Cody Tompkins scored 22 points and Reid Clark notched 17 for the Bears.

Ashland 51, Van Buren 48 – The Hornets came from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to eke out the victory over the Crusaders.

Kenny Tarr scored 17 points as Ashland won its fourth game of the season. Jordan Beaulier had 13 points and hauled in 10 rebounds, while Tyler Levesque chipped in with 10 points and Keith Holmes grabbed 10 rebounds.

Eric LaPlante scored 19 points to lead Van Buren.

Fort Fairfield 68, Wisdom 52 – Thursday in St. Agatha, the Tigers used a 27-point third quarter to get past the Pioneers.

Travis Noyes led the charge with 19 points, while Dereck Dufour had 14 and Andrew Lewis and Brandon Clark 10 each for the Tigers, now 8-5 on the season.

Fort Fairfield 64, Van Buren 53 – The Tigers were too much for the Crusaders last Tuesday, as four Fort Fairfield players reached double figures in the road victory.

Noyes scored 17 points and Lewis 15 to lead the way, while Jahleel Williams and Dufour added 11 each. Noyes came close to a statistical “triple double” as he also had eight assists and 10 rebounds. Dufour dished out five assists and Dylan Caldwell had eight boards.

LaPlante scored 13 for Van Buren.

Washburn 72, Greater Houlton Christian Academy 48 – The Beavers defeated GHCA for the second time in eight days as Worcester fired in 25 points and McLaughlin 21.

McLaughlin also contributed eight steals on the evening as Washburn ran out to a 16-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and was never challenged.

Russell Socoby scored 16 and Micah Wiley 15 for the Eagles.
