MARS HILL — Bitterly cold temperatures to start the morning greeted a large field of skiers at Bigrock Jan. 15 for a pair of Giant Slalom races. By mid-morning, however, the sun came out and made for a pleasant day of skiing for the nearly 120 skiers participating. Athletes from Fort Kent, Hampden Academy, Lee Academy, John Bapst, Orono, Greenville, Bangor, Mattanawcook Academy, Caribou, Presque Isle and Central Aroostook participated.

Results for local skiers, with first place overall included, from the girls Giant Slalom (race one) were — 1, Molly Howe (HA) 1:51.70; 2, Laura Collins (Caribou) 1:53.55; 6, Ginger Kieffer (Car) 1:56.03; 7, Chelsey Carroll (Presque Isle) 1:59.64; 10, Lydia Kieffer (Car) 2:06.47; 14, Jolonna Gough (PI) 2:10.72; and 24, Emma Bartlett (PI) 2:21.40.
