LIMESTONE — Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) is teaming up with the Limestone Rotary Club and Limestone Recreation Department to organize the community’s second Winter Fun Day. The event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to Limestone Recreation Department Director Amanda Brooker, the Rotary Club introduced Winter Fun Day to the community last year. “Limestone Rotary President David King asked if I’d be willing to help this year, and planning for all the cool activities happened from there,” said Brooker. “Everyone is excited to help and participate.”
Over a dozen different activities, which will be held at Limestone Community School, are planned for Saturday. Activities include cross country ski touring on the science trails, cross country ski races on the LCS track, street hockey, snow shoe wiffle ball, igloo building, snowman building competition, snow free throw shooting competition, and 100-piece puzzle race.
“Our faculty and students are excited about the Winter Fun Day,” said Dale Dintaman of MSSM. “We were planning an event for our students, but when the Recreation Department approached us about this event, we decided it would be great to combine the events.” Ten MSSM faculty members will help with events, while approximately 120 MSSM students are expected to participate with countless members of the community.
The Winter Fun Day event has received widespread support from local groups, including the Limestone Rotary Club, Limestone Recreation Department, MSSM, the Limestone Ski Club, Maine Winter Sports Center, Limestone Snowhawks, the Aroostook Paranormal Society, the Limestone Police and Fire departments, and the Greater Limestone Chamber of Commerce.
Attendees are asked to park their vehicles in the front lot of the school.
