Hall of Fame induction tickets
Tickets are now available for the first induction ceremony and banquet of the Presque Isle High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The event will be held Feb. 4 at 6 p.m. at the Northeastland Hotel. Tickets are $25 and can be obtained from Mark White (764-0121, Mark.White@sad1.org), Jim Carter (764-1217) or through the PIHS athletic office (764-6507).
Big East statistics include Wildcat players
The Big East Conference posted statistics on Jan. 16 for its basketball league and Presque Isle players are near the top of the rankings in a number of categories.
For boys, Travis Dyer is fifth (13 points per game), Oliver Zubrick sixth (12.5 ppg) and Alex Tuttle ninth (11.88 ppg) in scoring.
Tuttle is fourth in field goal percentage at 52 percent and Zubick is fifth at 50 percent. Dyer is sixth in three-point field goal percentage (32.56 percent).
Dyer is third (76.47 percent) and Zubrick 10th (63.64 percent) in free throw percentage.
Tuttle is second in rebounding at 8.25 per game and Zubrick is fifth at 7 per game.
For girls, Chandler Guerrette is fifth in scoring at 11.9 ppg and Kayla Richards is eighth at 11.6 ppg, while Meredith Stewart is fifth (46.48 percent) and Guerrette sixth (44.87 percent) in field goal percentage.
Megan Ireland is fourth (75 percent) and Massey eighth (70.45 percent) in free throw percentage, while Ireland is third (31.71 percent) and Karlee Bernier sixth (26.79 percent) in three-point field goal percentage. Stewart is third (9 per game) in rebounding, while Guerrette is third (3.5 per game), Richards fifth (3.1 per game) and Chelsea Nickerson seventh (2.7 per game) in steals.
For assists, Richards is second (3.6 per game) and Guerrette is third (3.4 per game).
Four PIHS athletes gain varsity club honor
The Presque Isle High School Varsity Club has announced that Chandler Guerrette and Travis Dyer have been selected as athletes of the week for Jan. 10-17.
Guerrette scored 81 points in her girls basketball team’s victories over Caribou, Houlton, Hermon and Bucksport.
Dyer netted 60 point and pulled down 20 rebounds as the Wildcat boys had a 3-0 week.
Cody Merrill and Meredith Stewart received the honor for Jan. 3-8.
Merrill has been a leading forward for the Wildcat hockey team and has been a role model for the younger players. Stewart scored 24 points and hauled down 24 rebounds to lead the PI girls to wins over Fort Kent and John Bapst.
All four received large one-item pizzas, courtesy of Big Cheese Pizza.
Griffeths, Freddy Ps atop men’s league
Standings in the Caribou Men’s Basketball League as of Jan. 18 are as follows: Griffeth Ford (9-1), Freddy Ps (8-1), Gagnon’s Studio (6-4), Time Warner Cable (4-7), Loring Job Corps (3-5), Leo’s Citgo (3-6), St. Peter Construction (3-7), Theriault Lawn Care (2-7).

UMPI hosting climbing night
The University of Maine at Presque Isle will host a women’s climbing night on Feb. 1 from 6-8 p.m. at Gentile Hall. Members of the community are invited to come in and enjoy climbing on UMPI’s 37-foot climbing wall. Gentile Hall members and UMPI students will be able to participate for free. Non-members must pay the $7 day pass fee at the front desk upon arrival. Participants are asked to bring sneakers, comfortable clothing and a water bottle.
